Ben Morel steps down from NBA role

NBA has announced that Ben Morel will step down from his role as NBA senior vice president and managing director of Europe and the Middle East at the end of July.

Morel, who has been in his current role since 2011 and with the NBA in various roles since 1998, will work on finalising business plans for the upcoming year and then intends to pursue personal interests and other opportunities.

Müller expands NBA partnership

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Müller have announced an expanded partnership that will see Müller Rice launch two on-pack NBA promotions on millions of packs of Müller Rice and bottles of FRijj, Müller’s milkshake brand, in the run-up to the NBA London Game 2018. 

The NBA London Game 2018 will feature the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics playing a regular-season game at The O2 on Thursday 11th January 2018.

NBA announces #MyNBAStory competition

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced the launch of the #MyNBAstory contest, a competition for fans to tell their stories of what inspires them about the NBA. 

Fans using the #MyNBAstory and #Contest hashtags can express their passion for the game through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The top three UK fan stories will be made into NBA-produced original short films shown on the NBA’s UK digital and social channels.

Basketball England & NBA launch Jr league

Basketball England and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have announced the launch of the 2016/17 Jr. NBA Basketball England League – a secondary school basketball programme for boys and girls ages 11-12, which aims to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for players, coaches and parents. 

The announcement comes following the second year of the Jr. NBA Basketball England Leagues in Birmingham, London and Manchester that concluded in January 2016.

Müller expands with NBA Global Games London

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Müller have announced an expanded partnership that sees Müller become an official marketing partner of NBA Global Games London 2017 featuring the Denver Nuggets versus the Indiana Pacers at The O2 on 12th January.

As part of the new partnership, Müller is launching two separate on-pack promotions in the UK and Ireland that will see the NBA partnership promoted on packs of Müller Rice, in the run-up to the game in January.

New Orleans to host 2017 NBA All-Star game

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced that New Orleans has been selected to host NBA All-Star 2017. The 66th NBA All-Star Game will be played on Sunday 19th February, at Smoothie King Center home of the New Orleans Pelicans.

The game was previously scheduled to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, due to a state law that discriminates against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, the NBA decided to move the game to another state.

NBA announces London regular season game

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) have announced that the NBA Global Games London 2017 will feature the Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers travelling to London for a regular-season game at The O2 on 12th January 2017. 

The announcement was made via Facebook Live from the NBA’s European headquarters in London with Nuggets guard Gary Harris in attendance. The team logos were revealed in a specially commissioned piece of street art in Stockwell, London.

NBA moves All-Star game over North Carolina law

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced in a statement it will move its 2017 All-Star game from Charlotte, North Carolina in protest about a state law that it says discriminates against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.

House Bill 2 (HB2), has invalidated some local anti-discrimination measures that protected LGBT people. The league however stated it had the hope of rescheduling the game for 2019, with the scheduled game’s new location yet to be determined.

NBA expands Twitter partnership

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Twitter have announced an expanded content partnership that will bring exclusive live programming and more video to Twitter, Vine and Periscope. 

The NBA, through its NBA digital partnership with Turner Broadcasting, and Twitter will deliver a free live streaming of a new weekly NBA pre-game show with elements created specifically for integration with Twitter conversation.
