Premiership Rugby has secured a new title partnership with Gallagher, an insurance brokerage, risk management and consulting services company, agreeing a multi-year partnership beginning with the 2018/19 season.
The new partnership starts on 1st July, with the competition renamed ‘Gallagher Premiership Rugby’ when it kicks off on 31st August. As well as naming rights, the agreement also includes additional branding opportunities and local community programmes.
Ian Ritchie has returned to rugby as the new independent, non-executive chairman of Premiership Rugby.
Ritchie was previously chief executive of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), spending five years at the helm.
He retired from his role at the RFU in May last year and has also held previous roles in tennis and as non-executive director at the Football League and Wembley Stadium. Most recently, he joined Onside Law as a consultant to the firm.
He was elected unanimously by the Premiership Rugby board of directors for a two-year term which will start next month.
Premiership Rugby has confirmed the first ever live match will be broadcast on terrestrial TV.
The match between Harlequins and Northampton on 30th December will be simulcast on BT Sport and Channel 5 and is the first of five matches to be shown by the broadcaster this season.
The match comes as part of a new four-year deal, which includes a Sunday evening highlights programme at 8.00pm.
