England Rugby & Virgin Active launch Fit for Rugby

England Rugby and Virgin Active have launched ‘Fit for Rugby’, a new rugby inspired fitness programme and online training hub as part of their new partnership. 

The training plans have been created by England Rugby’s strength and conditioning coaches in conjunction with Virgin Active, and brought to life on a new online training hub, featuring England Rugby’s men’s and women’s players.

Inner Warrior campaign enters next wave

England Rugby has launched the next wave of its ‘Inner Warrior’ campaign, which has launched with a ‘New Year, New You’ theme.

The 2018 Warrior Camps will run for two weeks in January with 185 rugby taster sessions taking place at clubs across the country.

The 2018 campaign is encouraging women to kick start their fitness routine for the new year and challenge themselves to take up a new sport.

RFU appoints Sue Day

Sue Day, former England international rugby captain (XVs and Sevens), and England’s record try scorer has been appointed as the new chief financial officer of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), and to the RFU Board.

Day is currently a deal advisory partner at KPMG, is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA), and has worked in finance roles at KPMG for the last 20 years.

Sue was appointed partner at KPMG in 2015, and has worked as lead partner on a number of high profile mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance transactions.

England Rugby announces women's participation growth

England Rugby is launching the next wave of its Inner Warrior campaign in January 2018.

According to England Rugby, the first year gave a huge boost to grassroots women’s rugby participation and since launching in January 2016, over 10,500 women attended Inner Warrior camps nationwide throughout the year, far exceeding the RFU’s initial target of 8,000. Of those women, 3,500 had never picked up a rugby ball before.

The influx of new participants into the women’s game has also led to the creation of 41 new female contact rugby club teams this season.

RFU renews GUINNESS partnership

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has announced that it has renewed its partnership with Guinness in a new four-year partnership. 

Guinness continues its association with rugby, having been involved with the sport for over 40 years both internationally and domestically.

The new partnership builds on the brand’s presence in and around Twickenham Stadium, as Guinness and the RFU collaborate to enhance the fan experience, with Guinness becoming the official partner of West Fan Village Stage and Show, as well as providing the Guinness Surge Bar. 

RFU launches official ticket exchange service

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has announced that it is promoting a new online ticket exchange service for the first time to clamp down on unofficial and secondary ticketing sites.

The announcement follows a trial run of the initial facility over the past year. Resale websites such as Viagogo, Stub Hub, Gumtree, ebay, or Live Rugby Tickets have no association or official arrangement with the RFU, and the RFU reports that the websites often market tickets that do not exist on a speculative basis and at inflated prices.

RFU announces Virgin Active partnership

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has announced a new long-term partnership with Virgin Active, which becomes England Rugby’s official fitness partner.

The three-year agreement will see Virgin Active and the RFU collaborate to bring a digital fitness programme and new gym fitness classes inspired by rugby to the public. These will be launched in the new year.

Virgin Active will also create discounted membership offers exclusive to all RFU affiliated clubs and registered players.

Steve Brown appointed RFU CEO

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has appointed Steve Brown as chief executive officer, commencing his role from today.

The appointment concludes an extensive selection process led by a Board nominations panel which concluded on 31st August.

Brown is currently chief officer, business operations at the RFU, and he succeeds Ian Ritchie who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Steve Brown joined the RFU as chief financial officer on 10 June 2011. He also served as managing director of England Rugby 2015, responsible for organising the England 2015 Rugby World Cup.

RFU unveils new Greene King IPA Championship identity

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has unveiled a new brand identity and bespoke website for the Greene King IPA Championship. The RFU also confirmed that Greene King IPA has renewed its partnership for a further three-years.

The announcement comes as the RFU has made a commitment to enhance its content, marketing and communications support for the competition throughout the 2017/18 season and beyond.
