Southampton FC sells 80% stake

Chinese businessman Jisheng Gao and his family have completed a deal to become the majority owner of Premier League side, Southampton.

Current owner Katharina Liebherr, who inherited the club from her late father in 2010 when the club was in League One, will retain a 20% stake in the club.

Reports suggest that Gao bought the stake for £200m, ending 12 months of talks between the Gao family and the club. The investment is being made personally by Gao and his daughter as opposed to being sanctioned through Lander Sports, as originally proposed.

Saints & Big Issue join forces

Southampton Football Club and The Big Issue have joined forces to help improve the lives of vulnerable adults through a new partnership.

The partnership will see a special Southampton FC edition of The Big Issue sold by vendors across Southampton and the surrounding area, including Portswood, Lordshill, Bitterne, Ringwood, Lymington, Eastleigh, Romsey, Winchester, Salisbury and Isle of Wight (Newport, Ryde and Cowes) from Monday 7th August, and distributed as the official matchday programme at the club’s first game of the season versus Swansea City on Saturday 12th August.

#MadeForHeroes - Episode One

To launch its new 80s inspired kits for the 2017/18 Premier League season, Southampton Football Club stars Manolo Gabbiadini, Ryan Bertrand, Fraser Forster and Maya Yoshida have been reimagined as 80s superheroes in a series of animations, with the final episode going live at midnight tonight to reveal the kits.

Southampton FC appoints Delete

Premier League side Southampton has appointed Delete as its new digital partner to develop its digital transformation strategy.

The club will work with the Leeds-based agency to focus on increasing fan engagement and will create a range of new digital consumer touchpoints to drive an improved experience for the club’s fans.

Under Armour launches Saints' kit

Southampton FC and Under Armour have revealed the first home and away match kits of their new seven-year partnership.

Arriving on England’s south coast, Saints fan Ed Powell oversaw delivery of the first kits to St Mary’s Stadium after winning a competition to learn more about each Under Armour-designed strip.

The experience saw Powell make the trip to Under Armour’s headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. Powell was able to see first-hand the approach that Under Armour is bringing to football.

Southampton signs Virgin Media

Premier League side Southampton FC has secured a three-year shirt sponsorship deal with Virgin Media.

Starting in the 2016/17 season, the deal will see Virgin Media work with the club to develop a number of fan orientated initiatives, with further details to be announced before the start of the new season.

Virgin Media replace Veho after the consumer electronic company’s contract expired at the end of the 2015/16 season.
