England captains Harry Kane and Steph Houghton are the new faces of The FA’s ‘Pledge of Positivity’ campaign, which aims to have an impact on off-pitch behaviour and create a positive environment at U-18 grassroots football.

The FA, in partnership with Nielsen, found that 88% of grassroots participants cite parents as a driver of disrespect in grassroots football, according to a poll of more than 1,000 players.

The Pledge of Positivity encourages those on the sidelines to support all players involved and to respect referees, coaches and other spectators.

Based on The FA’s RESPECT behavioural code of conduct, which seeks to improve behavioural standards in football, the pledge is supported by the two elite England captains, who have penned a joint letter to parents and spectators at their childhood clubs: Kane’s Ridgeway Rovers in Essex, and Houghton’s Boldon Girls in South Shields.
