Nike’s unveiling of its new mass-market Alphafly NEXT% shoe, which is set to launch in the spring, came alongside the announcement of the Space Hippie range - a new line of recycled shoes.
Billed as the company’s lowest carbon footprint shoe to date, the range is made of material left over from other shoes, that would normally be sent to landfill.
In a new video, the company explains why they have taken the step, and also explained the name: Space Hippie. The brand likens its newest range to potential astronauts on Mars, who would have to get creative with the supplies they have in order to survive. There’s no re-supply mission to Mars, Nike says, but there’s also no re-supply mission coming to Earth either.
